Overall crime in Dallas has declined in recent days compared to the start of the new year.
Between Jan. 13 and Jan. 19, there were 966 property crimes, 792 “other” crimes, 275 violent crimes, 24 nonviolent crimes and 20 financial crimes in Dallas.
Property crimes decreased by 130 offenses, “other” crimes decreased by 141 offenses and financial crimes decreased by 14 offenses from the week before.
This decline tracks with an overall decrease in crime since last month.
The early months of 2020 were pretty tame compared to spring, summer and the last two months of last year. We’ll see how the early months of 2021 pan out.

The most common crimes in Oak Cliff in recent days have been property-related and violent.
In the last 100 days, violent crimes in Dallas have commonly occurred on Fridays at 6 p.m. and 12 a.m. and Sundays at 8 p.m., 12 a.m. and 1 a.m.
Property crimes have commonly occurred at Mondays at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Thursdays at 5 p.m., Fridays at 5 p.m. and the weekends at 12 a.m.
According to Texas Department of Criminal Justice data, 33% of Dallas’ incarcerated individuals are white, 33% are Black, 33% are Hispanic and 1% are categorized as “other.” See how this compares to the city’s population:
2019 data shows Dallas had 2.26 police officers per 1,000 residents. There were 3,075 total police officers for a population of over 1.3 million.
