It’s become a tradition every June, although this is not just any summer cut.

The Barters do it to raise money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which raises more money for childhood cancer research than any other entity besides the United States government.

They’re inviting neighbors to donate and be part of the spectacle at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17, when they shave their heads in their front yard at 125 N. Rosemont.

This will be Andy’s 12th time to shave and 10-year-old Bode’s third. One of Bode’s friends from school, Graham Raney, is also shaving his head this year.

Bode’s participation was inspired by family friend Charlie Canada, who was diagnosed with leukemia about two-and-a-half years ago and just reached the end of her treatments on June 10.

So far, they’ve raised nearly $3,500 each of their separate $6,000 goals.

Watch the video below showing them having their heads shaved last year. This year’s event will include music from bluegrass artists Don Thacker and Floramay Holliday and opera singer Chris Barker.
