The award is for superior performance and outstanding achievement in academics, physical fitness, marksmanship, cadet involvement and community service.

The program was the first Navy JROTC program at a public charter school in the nation, and it’s the first such program at any school to win the Distinguished Unit Award with Honors in its first year. Faith Family Academy was one of two Texas schools selected to pilot the inclusion of eighth graders this past school year.

The program has 160 members.

“Faith Family Academy’s NJROTC worked as a unit and surmounted pandemic obstacles to achieve the prominent and highly respected Distinguished Unit Award with Honors for the school year 2020-2021,” said Mike Hale, NJROTC area manager for Area 10. “The fortitude and tenacity of these cadets are remarkable, and I congratulate them all for a job well done.”
