The park, to be built in two phases, will connect the Dallas Zoo and surrounding neighborhoods to Zang Boulevard and the rest of North Oak Cliff.

Phase one, from Lancaster to Ewing, will include a multi-purpose pavilion, a large lawn, a children’s playground and a turnaround for food trucks and drop offs.

HKS is leading design and engineering of the park on behalf of the Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation, which receives funding from the City of Dallas, North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Texas Department of Transportation and private donations.

The 2.8-acre first phase park is expected to cost about $82 million, including $47 million in public funding and $35 million, which the foundation is raising. The second phase of the park, which will comprise a total of 5.5 acres, will cost about $90 million for infrastructure and amenities.
