The City of Dallas closed the right lanes on both sides of the 1.1-mile stretch that has six lanes, between South Polk and North Hampton.

Lanes in the 30-mile-per-hour zone will be closed until about mid-November.

Mayor Pro-Tem Chad West says neighbors have been “working on the Jefferson Task Force for months,” to find a solution to speeding on the stretch of road where traffic accidents are common.

A speeding car killed 48-year-old gardener Armando Leija Esparza while he was riding a lawnmower near Jefferson in July. That is the case that prompted West to call on the city to close lanes while they “explore potential traffic solutions” on the dangerous stretch of road.

The city released a letter stating they plan to put up signs “to educate residents on the temporary road diet program”.
