It could be the Trinity River monster, aka alligator gar.

These are the largest freshwater fish in North America, and fossils show they’ve been around for at least 100 million years.

The largest alligator gar ever recorded weighed over 300 pounds, and many 200 pounders have been caught, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. They can be fished legally with a rod and reel or crossbow. If you want to try it yourself, definitely buy a license and know the restrictions on alligator gar.
