Each staff member was given a proclamation in recognition of their service.

“Today, I joined The Well Auxiliary President, Vickie Fisk, to recognize Executive Director Alice Zaccarello, and her extraordinarily dedicated colleagues, for their tireless service to our community during the COVID-19 pandemic at The Well Community Annual Staff Luncheon at La Calle Doce,” Anchía announced on social media.

The Well Community is a faith-based nonprofit that offers support to neighbors experiencing mental illness and homelessness.

The nonprofit has a goal of providing the backpacks filled with essential items and $50 Walmart gift cards to each of its clients by Dec. 1., and Oak Cliff neighbors can help.

From Zaccarello’s e-newsletter:

These cards don’t just enable them buy things they need or want, they give members dignity of choice and the liberty of “new.” Our members gratefully receive donated used clothing, but with the gift card they joyfully purchase items that are just what they like. We all appreciate such pleasures.

Donate a Walmart gift card here, or help fill backpacks by ordering from this Amazon wish list.

If you’d rather party than send cash, The Well has an option for that, too. Its fundraiser, Starry Night Holiday Night, features live and silent auctions, plus food drinks and dancing. It’s from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Place at Tyler.
