Happy Friday in this BA.2 variant world, where catching the virus probably won’t put a vaccinated person in the hospital, but it could put ’em in bed for 10 days (speaking from recent personal experience).

Get to know the quirks of this variant. For example, early rapid tests could give false negatives, so it’s a good idea to err on the side of caution if you’re feeling sick.

Then start getting to know our neighborhood again because spring in Oak Cliff is full of comebacks.

First, this weekend:

Address Me Dallas returns to the Wild Detectives from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. This social installation from Amy Walton invites you to drop an analog text. Everything you need to write and send a letter is provided. Just bring addresses and your penmanship skills.

This free event also includes “an exhibit of vintage letters, including correspondences of local significance and an epistolary-inspired reading list, curated by the Dallas Public Library; artists and calligraphers from Kaligrafos to hand-address your envelopes; and a special selection of fountain pens from the Dallas Pen Club.”

Gentrification in Oak Cliff Art Show, from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at Arts Mission Oak Cliff.

Somos Tejas, West Oak Cliff Coalition and RAYO present this exhibition “offering the community a creative space to uplift our community’s voice related to adverse and inequitable changes in our neighborhoods. In addition to impactful art, we invite you to enjoy local food and community organizations promoting civic engagement and education.”

Generation X’s angry dreamboat Henry Rollins appears at the Kessler Saturday night.

Check out The Kessler’s spring lineup, including the return of Spring on the Green, outdoor shows where standing-room access is free but limited, and reserving a picnic table costs $99.

Gain appreciation for Ocavio Medellín, the sculptor who once had a studio at El Sibil, at the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts’ next salon on May 15. The Dallas Museum of Art currently has a retrospective of Medellín’s work.

Besides these horror flicks on the menu, the Texas Theatre also has live music coming up. The Antlers spring tour arrives Friday, May 13.
