If you grew up in the 1990s — and were the type of kid who watched scary movies, and maybe even if not — you knew the names Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich.

After playing the bad guys in Wes Craven’s 1996’s flick, Scream, their names were firmly and irrevocably fixed in the popular culture and synonymous with the horror genre and more specifically what would become the Scream franchise.

As New York Magazine critic Jordan Crucchiola put it earlier this year (after a fifth Scream premiered, featuring many a middle-aged version of 1990s cast members), ” … the original movie’s villains, Billy and Stu, [were] so masterfully embodied by Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, respectively, that it took just one movie for them to cast a shadow over the rest of this decades-spanning series.”

Tonight at 8 p.m. the dastardly duo will be here in Oak Cliff, onstage at 8 p.m. at the Texas Theatre on Jefferson for an extended Q&A before a screening of the movie.

The neighborhood event is co-presented by Texas Frightmare Weekend and Alamo Drafthouse Dallas, and it is a precursor to the former. The horror convention runs Friday-Sunday nearby at The Hyatt DFW Airport.

Note: no autographs or meet and greet at tonight’s appearance, however, both Lillard (now 52) and Ulrich (also 52) plus their onscreen high school classmates in the original Scream Jamie Kennedy (now 51) and Neve Campbell (now 48) will all be at the horror convention over the weekend. Spoiler: They all have aged incredibly well.

Tickets are available here for $21.50 apiece. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The horror vibe continues Saturday with Bride of Chucky and May May’s Nightmares —  the night begins at 8:30 with a drag show followed by a screening of the 1998 classic about murderous doll and his complementarily maniacal love interest.
