Shannon Neffendorf says his company has “hazy long-term plans for it,” and it could be part of the company’s future.

“For now we are doing some improvements and plan to keep it naturally beautiful. And most likely lease it out,” he says.

Neffendorf also renovated the Brillhart, a neglected apartment building in Winnetka Heights, and saved a 1905 colonial revival from the wrecking ball. That two-story house was moved from 10th at Bishop to a lot behind the roaster’s retail operation, Davis Street Espresso, where it’s under renovation for office space.

The Texaco building, which some sources date to 1923, was on Edgefield at Jimtown Road, before it was renamed to Clarendon Drive.

Like most of us, Neffendorf says he’s admired the building for years. It most recently housed the Texas Body Shop.

“It was certainly an emotional purchase,” he says. “And we spent about 2 years discussing a purchase with the previous owners.”

The building, at 1029 S. Edgefield Ave., has been known as The Edgefield and Clarendon Garage, Oak Cliff Texaco and Dave Gray Texaco.
