Everyday Works opened in a shopping strip next to the Valero station, between Gladstone and 12th Street, recently. The shop held a grand-opening celebration with local vendors this past weekend.

Owners Mando and Mel Mendoza are from Oak Cliff, and they also own Mando’s Spot, a smoke shop near Fiesta Mart off Ledbetter.

Everyday Works is a “market-style” coffee shop, and it carries some groceries, such as pasta, ice cream and plant-based frozen products, such as Wholly Veggie cauliflower wings and Mind Blown coconut shrimp. There’s also gourmet popcorn and health-conscious snacks, such as Simply candy bars and vegan jerky. The bar serves Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters.

There are plans to add seating and more displays inside the store, says barista Britain Gillispie, who learned her coffee skills in Chicago.

“It really is a science and an art,” she says.
