No. 1 for your state champion South Oak Cliff High School Golden Bears will “hook ’em horns” in 2023.

In case you missed the news last week, SOC incoming senior Malik Muhammad committed to the University of Texas football team.

Muhammad was a star on the state-champion team, and he’s also the scion of a football family. His cousin Abdul Muhammad III, also an incoming senior at SOC, has committed to Southern Methodist University football. And their cousin Billy Walton III also plans to attend UT after de-committing to Oklahoma State.

Their grandfather/great-grandfather Abdul Muhammad Sr., who died before they were born, played on the previous Dallas ISD football team to hold a Texas state championship, Booker T. Washington High School in 1958.

Another cousin, A.J. Green, is a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals. Cousin Jabbar Muhammad, who went to Desoto High School, now plays cornerback for OSU.

Malik Muhammad is one of nine siblings, including six sisters and two younger brothers. He almost didn’t enroll in SOC last year. He had planned to attend IMG Academy in Florida, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football reported.

“I want to win a state championship. I want to come back and get developed by my original trainer,” he told the magazine last September. “I want to do it for the ‘hood, for South Oak Cliff.”
