The bar and its accompanying restaurant, Chicken Scratch, first opened in the former Jacks Backyard off West Commerce when it was between a trailer park and a run-down motel. Now it’s surrounded by high-end apartments.

The partnership that originated the bygone restaurants Bolsa, Smoke and the Theodore opened Chicken Scratch and the Foundry around 2009.

Kessler resident Shane Spillers, who owns Eno’s and Brewed, bought the bar in September, and it reopened in November.

The Foundry, whose stage gave local and touring musicians a venue for years, announced on social media last week that  it had closed July 31.

“Farewell, neighbors,” the post read. “The amazing memories created in this space will be with us forever. We appreciate those who contributed to those amazing experiences over the years. You are all appreciated!”
