Three years later, there isn’t much clarity on the answer. The City of Dallas has had at least four task forces that have attempted to tackle the problem of regulating short term rentals with little to show for it.

In the next few months, the Quality of Life Committee is expected to once again begin discussions of regulations. This comes after the City Plan Commission worked throughout 2022 to define where short term rentals should operate.

The City Council hopes to answer the question of how to regulate short term rentals in 2023, and District 1 City Council member Chad West has released a survey to gauge District 1s feelings towards STR’s.

The survey can be accessed here, and is open through March 9.

The survey asks about the importance of certain STR related regulations, and offers examples of legislation in comparable cities that have regulated Airbnbs and other rentals.

The Advocate will publish survey results once they are available.

The survey can also be accessed at the QR code below.
