Demolition on George Peabody Elementary School began last month, and construction of the new replacement building will begin in the next two months according to DISD Trustee Ben Mackey.
The new school building will be an updated, two-story campus serving 650 students, according to DISD. The cost of the new building is expected to be around $30.9 million.
Peabody is one of three Southern Dallas elementary schools currently being replaced. In Oak Cliff, Lenore Kirk Hall Elementary is also expected to get a new building.
Mackey said the new school is slated to open to students by Fall 2024.
