Trustee Mackey: Congratulations neighborhood graduates

Just like that, spring break is gone and we’re on to the home stretch of the school year. This month, Dallas ISD had a lot going on, which you can catch up on below.

Dallas ISD & District 7 Monthly Updates

Peabody Elementary School under construction: We’re finally off and running with the construction of the new George Peabody Elementary School. Demolition started this past month and construction will begin over the coming two months. As of now, we are on track for an opening of the new school by fall 2024.
Kimball High School wins basketball championship: The Kimball Knights brought home this year’s 5A State Basketball Championship! Congratulations to the players, coaches, and community for this great 69-48 win over Killeen Edison High School.

March Board Meeting Debrief: This past month, Dallas ISD had its regular board briefing and meeting. I’ve chosen to highlight two of the most important items below:

School Calendar Adjustments for 2023-24 and 2024-25: Over the past two months since Dallas ISD adopted its calendar for the next two years, the district has received feedback and concerns about the early August start date. Dallas ISD revised the calendar and bumped the start date to August 14 next school year. Click the links to view the new calendars for FY23-24 and FY24-25.

Policy change to quicken emergency response: This month, the Dallas ISD board unanimously approved a policy change that will allow for designated campus staff to administer Narcan for emergency situations where someone has been exposed to fentanyl. While we hope that none of our schools ever find themselves in the position of needing to use it, we believe that it’s critical to be prepared for worst-case scenarios.
