Snackateria is so not your average convenience store. Just ask mascot Lola the Llama or the yellow Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubeman — he’s there to point the way.

On Eighth Street east of I-35, the Corral family — their friends call them The Pollos, according staffer David J. Roberts who filled us in on everything by email — opened the eclectic convenience store after determining there weren’t many existing snack-ery options for students of nearby Townview High School, where Corral daughter Ayleen graduated from the business school. Other family members, who you’ll meet in store, are Merely, Cesar and Daveed.

“The Corral Family have been described as serial entrepreneurs,” Roberts said. They founded the nonprofit LOVE in Motion, which benefits area educators, first responders and healthcare workers and a cleaning company called Lola’s. They have “dabbled in” the ATM industry. Now they have Snackateria, “which they are most proud of.”

“The Pollos love the Oak Cliff Community, and they described the support they’ve received as ‘steel in their spines’,” according to the email.

Snackateria opened in April, “after many months of researching the retail aspect of business, permit pulling and creative sessions. Lola the Llama mascot’s face is on everything Snackateria-related, noted the staffer.

The spot is stocked with every kind of snack, ice cream, milkshakes and knick knacks that include the Bob Ross bobblehead, Hello Kitty items and chicken wing plush toys.

“Top sellers are the elote in a cup, yellow and white kernels, and Cochi Chips.”

There is ample bar and table seating and wifi and the owners say they pride themselves on maintaining a safe, clean and vibrant environment.

“The Corrals counts it a privilege to be able to start a small, minority owned business in beautiful Oak Cliff and they look forward to laying down deep roots that will benefit the entire community.”
