In January 2022, the Advocate broke the news that a Starbucks was planned for the shopping center on the corner of Fort Worth Avenue and Jaqueline Drive.

Since then, Taylor Swift has released two albums, Lionel Messi won his first World Cup, Queen Elizabeth died and Charles III was crowned King of England.

And yet, there is no Starbucks on Fort Worth.

For the last year and a half the retail strip has stood gated off and vacant, but, earlier this week, demolition began and the center currently appears to be completely gutted. So is it finally time for the first stand-alone Starbucks to join our neighborhood?

We aren’t entirely sure, but we don’t think so.

Several months ago, City Council member Chad West told the Advocate that he “believes (Starbucks) isn’t happening there anymore.” Follow up attempts with Starbucks to ask about plans for an Oak Cliff expansion went unanswered.

The Starbucks can be built on the property by right, but even the Dallas Central Appraisal District doesn’t seem to have any clue about the property.

When this very invested reporter stopped by the construction site this morning, a worker said that while he doesn’t know much about plans for the building, the project has been dubbed the “Shell Construction.”

Is a gas station set to become Aldi’s new neighbor?

Or maybe Greenville Avenue’s Mel The Shell Man is opening an Oak Cliff storefront?

The DCAD map shows the property is owned by Retail Partners LLC, based out of Fort Worth. If anyone has a phone number for those guys, feel free to pass it along.

We have questions.
