The Festival’s conversations span global perspectives, share the latest thinking in the arts and sciences with curious audiences and bring to life the tangible human experience.

The festival was dreamt up around a kitchen table in Hay in 1987. Thirty-one years later, the unique marriage of exacting conversations and entertainment for all ages has travelled to 30 locations and is partnering with The Wild Detectives to bring the opportunity to connect to Oak Cliff.

Events include:

  • Unveiling the Tapestry will illuminate conversation with acclaimed author and recipient of the Pulitzer Prize Hernan Diaz. Diaz’s novels delve deep into the intricacies of capitalism, power dynamics, and human existence, transcending conventional narratives. Diaz unravels his literary tapestry, examining societal constructs, historical echoes, and the limitless realms of storytelling.
  • “Kidnappings, femicide, and governmental complicity are just some of the systemic based oppressions faced in Mexico presently.” Journalists often face the question of how to capture stories of trauma and violence with respect and emotional precision for the world to see and never forget. With award-winning journalist Daniela Rea and Dallas Morning News Reporter Maria Ramos Pacheco, Multimedia Storytelling examines Violence, Conflict, and Migration Through Personal Stories.
  • Afro Perreo takes you on a rhythmic passage that transcends continents. El Nick and Elkin Pautt bring a dance experience like no other- a vibrant tapestry woven with the rich threads of African heritage and the dynamic dance music that echoes through the diaspora of the New World. Witness the enchanting fusion of two dance traditions, uniting their magic within a single space.

Aniya Henre will elevate the atmosphere with a culminating DJ set.

Don’t miss out on this eye-opening experience funded by UTD’s Center for Translation Studies, SMU World Languages and Literature program and PEN America.
