A bloody and belligerent Sid Vicious? Check. A two-night residency by legendary Emmylou Harris? Check. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins tearing up the dance floor for a good cause? Well, stranger things have happened.

Next month, Jenkins will be one of several city leaders partnering with Dallas ISD fine arts educators and the Dallas Education Foundation for the Heart of Teaching: Dancing with the Stars of Dallas gala.

From 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Nov. 1, the Longhorn Ballroom will be the location of the most star-studded dance competition in town. 38 Dallas ISD teachers representing 30 schools have volunteered for the gala, and will choreograph, coach and assist in the performances by city leaders as they vie for the coveted mirror ball trophy.

Jenkins’ competition includes Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde, State Representative Rafael Anchia, former Dallas City Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates, WFAA’s Cynthia Izaguirre and Dallas Education Foundation board chair Victor Vital.

The nonprofit and philanthropic partner of DISD, the Dallas Education Foundation supports teaching grants and student early learning and literacy. Proceeds of the Dancing with the Stars of Dallas gala will benefit the foundation.

According to Dallas ISD, DEF has awarded over $7 million in grants over the past three years, with a focus on enhancing economic mobility for all students.

“I’ll always show up for the Dallas Education Foundation because they always show up for our students,” Elizalde said in a statement.
