A sign for Hometown Farmers Market has been put up at the former Better Block building at 700 W. Davis.

The Waxahachie shop is open seven days a week, and touts “a different vendor on every shelf.” Vendors interested in selling at the Bishop Arts store can email info.hometownfarmersmarket@gmail.com.

An opening date has not yet been announced.

The West Davis building has sat empty for over two years. In 2021, building owner Craig Schenkel requested a zoning change to allow a restaurant at the site.

The building was constructed in 1932 as a Conoco gas station, according to the Texas Historical Commission. It was the office of Ruth Chenoweth’s real estate firm until she died in 2006. Brumley Gardens had an outpost there for a couple of years before the Better Block leased it in 2016.
