Bishop Arts has been in desperate need of a sandwich place ever since Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. closed in late 2022, and finally, this editor has an answer to her prayers.

Trades Delicatessen opened at 312 W Seventh St. on Feb. 7 — just next door to the former grilled cheese storefront — and touts a menu of breakfast bagels ($2.50), schmears (+$3.00), bagel sandwiches ($8.50) and hot and cold deli sandwiches.

A short soup and salad menu round out the lunch offerings, and homemade chocolate chip cookies are the dessert option.

The deli is the brain child of Bishop Arts legends Jason Roberts and Amy Wallace Cowan, who, between Oddfellows, Vagabonds and Revelers Hall, plus their individual personal projects, weren’t quite busy enough.

Next door is the newly opened microbrewery Jaquval, also started by Roberts and Cowan. Get it? Jaquval … Trades? (Stay tuned for the Advocate’s coverage of Jaquval coming in our April magazine.)

The twin businesses share a kitchen and an open wall makes it easy to flow between spaces.

Trades will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
