The celebration will kick off at Moss Park, where the City of Dallas’ Park and Recreation Department recently finished the Coombs Creek Trail extension to Moss Park.

After remarks, attendees will be invited to join a family-friendly bike ride along the Coombs Creek Trail all the way to the eastern portion to cut the ribbon for the new Coombs Creek Bridge and North Beckley Ave. crossing.

This second project was recently completed by the City of Dallas’ Transportation and Public Works Department in conjunction with Dallas County Public Works Department. After the second ribbon cutting, attendees are welcome to return to Moss Park, head home, or join for informal celebrations at Chip’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers (1605 N Beckley Ave.).

The new trail extensions on the west and east create a nearly 4-mile trail for North Oak Cliff neighbors to safely walk, stroll, skate, and bike. Coombs Creek Trail provides a vital east-west connection for much of District 1, connecting residents to green space, neighbors, and businesses. The new eastern extension to Beckley Ave. also gives pedestrians and cyclists connection to the pedestrian/bike bridge along I-30 to get downtown.

“This double ribbon cutting is a huge win to make District 1 even more connected, active, and safe for pedestrians and cyclists,” said District 1 Council Member Chad West. “We are so excited to join with the community to celebrate the Coombs Creek Trail extension. I want to invite everyone to come out and experience the expanded Coombs Creek Trail firsthand.”

All community members, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts are welcome to attend this free event.

“Coombs Creek Trail is a vital connection to the Margaret McDermott Pedestrian Bridge,” said Dr. Elba Garcia, Dallas County commissioner for District 4. “This is a collaborative effort between the City of Dallas, Dallas County and TxDOT to join the north Oak Cliff area to downtown, giving residents the opportunity to continue exploring the growing trail system in our region.”
