Black Nativity follows a family coming together during the holiday season with the interwoven story of the birth of Jesus.

This year’s reimagined rendition of Langston Hughes’ 1960 Broadway production is written and directed by Calvin J. Walker. Original music by Walker and Steven A. Taylor adds new emotional depth and a vibrant contemporary sound, according to a press release.

Black Nativity is more than a holiday show; it is a celebration of resilience, legacy, and the power of gathering,” Walker said. “Our new arrangements and original compositions, created in collaboration with Steven A. Taylor, honor the roots of Langston Hughes’ work while inviting audiences into a refreshed musical landscape.”

Performances will run Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. and over the weekend Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. until Dec. 21.

Tickets to the show can be purchased here, and range from $21.20-$36.20 including fees.

Bishop Arts Theatre Center is located at 215 S. Tyler Street.
