The Oak Cliff Cultural District is kicking off its inaugural season this spring.
The OCCD nonprofit, which formed in 2023, is an arts organization that is dedicated to promoting the culturally rich and diverse, walkable community of over 500 retail establishments, restaurants, art galleries, entertainment venues and theaters throughout 510 acres of Oak Cliff.
During Dallas Arts Month, OCCD will host the First Annual Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, which will take place April 11, where four-player teams will compete against each other to finish a never-before-seen jigsaw puzzle within two hours.
The event will raise funds for the District as the organization will assist the City of Dallas, VisitDallas and the Oak Cliff community prepare to welcome visitors for the FIFA World Cup matches in June, according to a press release.
Additionally, OCCD will host a Cultural Festival Information Center as a resource for the Oak Cliff community as they welcome visitors from around the world for the World Cup. The center will operate Friday, June 12 through Sunday, July 19 in partnership with Art Garcia, a local sculptor of the District.
“We are excited to be collaborating with Art Garcia, District resident, as our Lead Artist,” said Todd Hedrick, president of the District. “He represents our first official partnership, and I know he will set a high artistic standard for us.”
The center will feature District maps, artists brochures and District restaurant and business information, along with limited edition artworks created by selected artists working in the District. Artists living or working within the District’s footprint are invited to submit “one-of-a-kind works” for the center by contacting Garcia at artg@graphicontent.com.
More details for these events will be announced soon. To keep up, follow @oakcliffculturaldistrict or visit www.oakcliffculturaldistrict.org.
