ElmArt Collective will host the opening event of the Tiny Gallery Trail Saturday, April 25 from 4 to 8 p.m.
The one-mile trail is made up of five custom-built boxes that will include rotating exhibitions by local and regional artists. For the inaugural exhibit, local artists were selected to display work that includes perspectives inspired by the place they call home.
“Our opening show, Elmwood!, offers a window into our neighborhood through the work of five talented and established Elmwood-based artists,” curator Holly Smith said in a statement. “Their work explores sources of inspiration, rooted identities, nostalgic reflections, and neighborhood personalities that shape the community.”
The featured artists for this year’s Elmwood! show are Tina Medina, Elizabeth Mellott, Pascale Pryor, Karla Garcia, and Angel Faz.
The festivities for the gallery opening will kick off at the outdoor beer garden of Oak Cliff Brewing Co. at 4 p.m. The come and go celebration will include local brews, tasty bites and live music.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., attendees are invited to participate in an art bike parade. Decorate bikes from both casual riders and seasoned cyclists of all ages are invited to ride the trail and compete for the “Best on Trail” prize.
From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the featured artists will be available to meet on the trail by each of their respective boxes. Kid-friendly activities will be included along the trail from Pegasus Tattoo and Wellness where children can design their own stencil tattoo.
Additionally, El Refugio will present the pop-up gallery Entre Comadres, curated by Jose Villanueva. This gallery will be open all day April 25 and an artist will be on hand to lead craft activities for kids.
The event is free and open to all ages, weather permitting. A contingency date of May 16 is set if needed.
