Dallas Animal Services (DAS) will host the organization’s inaugural First Fridays event on Friday, June 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The event will extend regular shelter hours with the goal to transform the traditional shelter environment to welcome residents to stop by after work, hangout with friends or family and meet adoptable animals, according to a news release.
The June 5 event will include free hot dogs while supplies last, live music by Nova Pangea, complimentary treats and interactive activities, and “fun surprises” during the event.
The series also kicks off the launch of Paws and Play Summer Kickoff Weekend, a three-day celebration that will run from June 5-7. According to a Facebook post from DAS, there will be opportunities during the weekend celebration for drop-in kitten care trainings, hands-on pet enrichment activities, youth volunteer sign-ups and orientations, spay/neuter resources and education, community partner booths and giveaways and adoption goodies available while supplies last.
“We’re always looking for new ways to help pets connect with potential adopters,” Wendy Reiner, co-founder of Friends of Dallas Animal Services, said in a news release. “First Fridays allows the community to visit the shelter after work hours, spend time with our animals, and hopefully find their new best friend.”
