Just in time for the first weekend of the FIFA World Cup in Dallas, the Oak Cliff Cultural District’s Copa de Cliff Immersive Visitor Center and Artist Exhibition is now open.
The FIFA-themed installation includes nine installations from Oak Cliff-based artists in honor of the world coming to Dallas this summer.
Loretta Gonzalez, an artist and painter, collaborated with Art Garcia and Willie Bautista to paint the largest piece in the exhibit Marcas, an immersive mural that includes flags of the World Cup teams.
“Art and I have been friends for a really long time, and so he knew that I did walls … and so he had thought of me,” she said, noting her previous work on some murals in the Bishop Arts District.
Other artists participating in the exhibit include Kelly Allen, Jennifer Monet Cowley, Elise Esquivel, James Olney, Larry Pile, Pascale Pryor and Giovanni Valderas, with pieces also available for purchase.
With the start of FIFA, Gonzalez said that she thinks having a visitor center location will be good to help guide people during the festivities this summer. Additionally, the space is a good opportunity to bring local artists’ work together.
“It’s always welcome. It’s good to have one more place to show, especially under one roof. It’s really helpful for people to see that,” she said.
The Copa de Cliff Immersive Visitor Center and Artists Exhibition is located at 509 W. Davis St., Suite 200. Here are the hours of operation for the center:
- June 12–13 from 5-10 p.m.
