Hopefully by now, you’ve had a chance to read Gayla Brooks Kokel’s column on the churches of Tenth Street, which at one time “held the record in ‘Ripley’s Believe It or Not’ for having more churches per mile, on a street, than any other place in the world.”
On our website is a great slideshow of historical images sent to us from these churches, and you shouldn’t miss it. Not only are the photos incredible, but the anecdotes with the photos are priceless. (Read them by clicking on the “i” in the slideshow, or by scrolling through the photos on our Flickr page.)
These two, for example, tell a great story. The first is a photo of the Bethany Sunday school class at Cliff Temple Baptist. The date is unknown, but it looks like it was taken in the ’50s. The next photo is also of the Bethany class, taken in 1975. And yes, some of the women are in both photos.
