Rosemont Elementary sixth graders have been invited to attend President Obama’s inauguration in Washington, D.C. next month. Students, parents, teachers and volunteers have been raising money for months to send the whole class, but they still need about $2,000.

If you’ve got some extra cash, consider giving it to these students. They’re the class that piloted Rosemont’s dual-language program, and they’re the first students in the dual-language middle school at Rosemont.

Amy Cowan and Go Oak Cliff raised $500 for the trip during the chili cook-off at Cliff Fest last month. “For many, this may very well be their first trip out of Dallas,” Cowan says. “It’s great for these kids to learn about our government and history, but it’s almost equally important for them to see that Dallas is just one small part of a very big nation, and that there are many great opportunities waiting for them.”
