New stoplight on Illinois to serve trail users

It’s a dodgy intersection anyway.

A new stoplight on Illinois at Rugged should be installed any day now as part of the Elmwood Parkway Trail extension.

The trail extension, from Elmwood Drive to Perryton Avenue, connects Kiest Park to Elmwood Parkway and cost about $620,000. It also includes a pedestrian bridge, pictured above, crossing Cedar Creek in Elmwood Parkway.

The 8-foot-wide trail extension is finished save for the bridge, the traffic signals and curbs where the signals will go. All of that is expected to be finished by the end of March.

This is a great start to updating the neighborhood. Granted, a SMALL start.

Elmwood is such a cool neighborhood. Happy to call it home.
