Nita Negrete
A 37-year-old woman from Oak Cliff died on Jan. 3 after coming down with the flu on Dec. 24. Nita Negrete, who has three children, is the youngest of 11 people who have died from flu-related complications in Dallas County this season.
Nagrete began coughing on Christmas Eve and was diagnosed with the flu a few days later. Two days after that, she was rushed to the hospital with pneumonia, and she died.
The flu outbreak here is so bad that Dallas Methodist Medical Center is diverting non-emergency patients to other facilities because of high demand for beds.
