Kids in South Oak Cliff used to walk five miles through a sewage tunnel that ended at a manhole inside the State Fair of Texas.
“That’s what we had to do for fun: walk and crawl and run through a small stream of sewage for five miles,” former NBA player Dennis Rodman says in his 1997 memoir. “I think back to times like that, and I think how easy everything is for me now.”
Rodman uses the tunnel as an effective metaphor for his struggles in life.
Flashback Dallas reminded us of the legendary tunnel to Fair Park in a recent post about a BBC radio half-hour show about the tunnels and the State Fair of Texas, which aired last week. Listen to it here.
