A driver steered toward police officers who were securing a crime scene on South Vernon Avenue near Wynnewood Village, prompting one of the cops to shoot at the car.

The police had closed lanes on South Vernon when, at 12:47 a.m. Saturday, a gray BMW sedan approached, “driving erratically.” The car turned onto Illinois Avenue.

The car came around again a bit later, this time driving in the closed lanes. As the car approached, an officer used his flashlight to direct the car into the open lane. When the car kept coming, another officer fired at it. Both officers got out of the way and were uninjured. The car sped away.

The driver hasn’t been located yet. The officer who fired his gun was placed on routine administrative leave.
