Where to find free and $1 sandwiches on grilled-cheese day

The magical combination of butter, bread and cheese has its day, of course. National Grilled Cheese Day is Friday, April 12.

In our neighborhood, at least two restaurants are commemorating the lactose-tolerant occasion with deals.

For the 10th year in a row, Norma’s Cafe offers free grilled cheeses from 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m. It’s for dine-in customers only, and no purchase is necessary.

At Dallas Grilled Cheese Co., it’s dollar day. From 11 a.m.-10 p.m., the restaurant will offer classic grilled cheeses, fried grilled-cheese sticks and Deep Ellum Brewing pints for $1 each. Specialty cocktails will be $5 all day.
