Dallas lost an untold number of old trees Sunday after a “downburst” storm slammed into the city causing widespread property damage and killing one when a construction crane collapsed.

The Dallas-based Texas Trees Foundation sent out tips on caring for storm-damaged trees. Mostly, it recommends hiring a certified arborist.

The Texas Department of Insurance offers these tips:

Always assume power lines are energized

Wear hard hats, safety glasses and protective clothes and footwear

Use extreme caution when moving ladders around downed trees and power lines
