Former Texas Tech and Carter High School hoops standout Andre Emmett was killed early Monday in Old East Dallas, authorities said.
Emmett was sitting in front of his houseĀ in theĀ 1800 block of North Prairie Avenue, between Munger and Ross avenues, at about 2:30 a.m. when two men approached, police said. One of them pulled out a gun, and Emmett was shot as he tried to run away.
A passerby found Emmett several hundred feet from his home and called 911. First responders took him to the hospital, where he died.
Witnesses told police the assailants fled in a white Chrysler 300 onto North Fitzhugh toward Ross.

Before he became a lead scorer at Texas Tech, Emmett graduated from Carter High School, the Dallas Morning News reported. After the 2004 NBA draft, Emmett played with the Memphis Grizzlies and later with the New Jersey Nets.
