Lunches listening to live piano music while dining on chopped steak and mashed potatoes with white or brown gravy are gone for our neighborhood.

Luby’s closed its last remaining store here, among 95 Luby’s and Fuddruckers locations that are closing temporarily while the Houston-based company searches for a buyer for all of its assets and brands, which also includes Cheeseburger in Paradise Bar and Grill.

There are still Luby’s open in Desoto and Fort Worth. But the one on South Hampton is closed, along with the one off U.S. 67 in Duncanville. There used to be a Luby’s on Fort Worth Avenue that closed over 10 years ago and is now a Chinese buffet.

Dallas also lost the 95-year-old Highland Park Cafeteria recently.

Luby’s closed stores, furloughed employees and slashed remaining salaries by 50% in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now the company is liquidating with plans to pay off debts and distribute remaining funds to stockholders.
