Dallas City Council races this year are robust. No one is unopposed, and twelve of the 14 seats have more than two candidates for the May 1 election.

Here’s who’s running in Oak Cliff. We will update you when we know more about all of the candidates.

District 1

Chad West: The incumbent City Councilman is in his first term.

Giovanni Valderas: The artist and activist who ran against West in 2019.

Stephani A. Kyle, who owns a local business, The Skylark Agency.

Gerardo Sanchez Corona, a Walmart auto technician running on a socialist/worker’s rights platform.

District 3

Casey Thomas, the incumbent City Councilman, in office since 2015.

Carolyn King Arnold: The incumbent City Councilwoman also previously held the seat from 2015-2019.

Maxie Johnson, a current Dallas ISD board member.

Johnny Aguinaga, who recently made the news after opening his private property to a homeless encampment.

Matt Canto, a senior-level operations manager, according to LinkedIn.

Lelani Russell
