Dallas City Councilman Chad West won reelection to Dallas City Council District 1 in Saturday’s election, with voter participation down about a third from 2019.

West won 2,087 votes, representing 52.06% of the total.

Giovanni Valderas received 1,590 votes, which is 39.66% of the vote.

Stephani Kyle and Gerardo Sanchez accounted for a combined 332 votes and 8.28%.

West avoided a runoff and beat out his challengers by 165 votes.

In all, only 4,009 people voted in the election, down 1,956 compared to 5,965 votes cast the 2019 election that won West his first term in office. That’s a difference of almost 33%.
