Delon Montreace Johnson Jr., who turned 24 in jail Thursday, told police that two men came into the store and that each walked out with a 12-pack of beer they didn’t pay for, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Johnson told police that he followed them into the parking lot and fired five shots into their pickup as they drove off. The truck traveled south on Zang and came to a stop at Clarendon.

One of the men in the truck, Kenneth Collins, was struck in the neck. He was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and pronounced dead.

The other man ran away before police arrived and has not been identified. Police are still investigating the crime.
