An off-duty firefighter pulled two people from a burning house Saturday morning, where police say an arsonist started a blaze in the living room.

The firefighter, who has not been identified, was driving to work at about 5:30 a.m. when he noticed the fire. By the time Dallas Fire Rescue arrived to the 900 block of East 9th Street, he had carried two people onto the home’s front lawn.

“The firefighter, while gratefully acknowledging that his efforts resulted in a more positive outcome than what could have happened otherwise, asked to remain unidentified,” DFR spokesman Jason Evans told the Dallas Morning News.

The two injured people were taken to the hospital.

Police arrested a suspect who they say started the fire in the two-story home, which was heavily damaged.

UPDATE: Police arrested 30-year-old Moniqua Queme and arrested her with arson. Police say Queme admitted to setting the fire under a sofa with charcoal and lighter fluid and then leaving without telling anyone. Her father and grandmother were asleep in the home and were intubated and taken to Parkland Hospital, KXAS reports. Queme is in the Dallas County jail with bail set at $75,000.
