After leaving 216 Lounge just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, a 31-year-old man, Cesar Hernandez, was shot in the stomach after an argument in the Fiesta parking lot.

Police say the shots came from two passengers in a GMC pickup: 30-year-old Luke Guerra and 18-year-old Edward Hernandez.

“As the suspects’ vehicle drove from the parking lot, they shot Cesar Hernandez in the stomach,” a Dallas Police blog post states.

Dallas Police Department Officer Keenan Blair was working off duty as security for the nightclub, and he shot at the men in the truck, using his DPD-issued weapon.

“Officer Blair, from his position working across the street from the Fiesta, saw the suspects shoot [Cesar] Hernandez as he walked past the truck,” the blog post states. “Officer Blair fired three shots from his department issued weapon at the suspects to protect [Cesar] Hernandez and other individuals in the parking lot.”

The truck took off with guns blazing, firing more than 20 rounds at the crowd while speeding down Llewellyn, the post states.

“A black sedan was also observed leaving the parking lot in the opposite direction, a passenger firing at least five rounds into the air,” it states.

A security guard who is not a DPD officer fired a shotgun into the air to disperse the crowd, he told police.

Cesar Hernandez was taken to the hospital and had surgery for his injuries. The two accused of shooting him showed up at a hospital later with “injuries consistent with bullet fragments, grazing and glass shards.”

They were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The officer was not injured, and no other injuries were reported.

Officer Blair and another DPD officer who was working off-duty as security that night were not wearing body cameras, but there is security footage from El Globo restaurant. See below.
