Spiral Diner is peacing out of Oak Cliff after nearly 15 years at the corner of Zang at Beckley.
“It’s not because we don’t love you, it’s just that our lease is over,” the restaurant announced on social media today. “But all good things and 100-year-old buildings must come to an end.”
The post didn’t mention any plans for another restaurant in our neighborhood.
“We can still see each other at our Denton and Fort Worth locations 7 days a week,” the announcement reads. “We’ll also get to see you at our new location in Arlington sometime next year! Not to mention our two new concepts arriving early 2023, Maiden: Fine Plants and Spirits and Dreamboat Donuts & Scoops.”
When Spiral Diner opened near Lake Cliff Park in 2008, commercial investment in our neighborhood was practically non-existent. Now the restaurant is on the streetcar line and adjacent to Kairoi Residential’s eight-story apartment development and the five-story Zang Flats.
Spiral Diner’s building at 1101 N. Beckley is owned by Square Foot Inc. An adjacent tenant, Jonathon’s also closed after its owners decided not to renew their lease last year, but Jonathon’s Diner is still open just down the road, and Beatrice, the new restaurant from Zen Sushi owner Michelle Carpenter has already opened in its old spot.
Spiral Diner opened its first location in Fort Worth in 2002, bringing plant-based comfort food to cowtown.
“We seriously love y’all so much and cherish every moment we’ve had together,” the announcement states. “So many friendships and even marriages have been forged within these old walls.”
