Lopez, 42, died in a car accident earlier this month.

The memo, which was signed by Chad West, District 1, Omar Navaez, District 6, and Jamie Resendez, District 5, asks for the sign toppers to be added between S. Van Buren Avenue and N. Adams Street.

Bishop Barbers, the business Lopez owned and ran, is located in that stretch.

“Ms. Lopez was always on the move, organizing fund-raisers for others and raising awareness about issues that mattered in the community,” the memo said.

During a candlelight vigil held in Lopez’s honor on Feb. 6, many friends and family members remarked on the woman’s love for Jefferson Boulevard.

“She owned Jefferson,” Hilda Duarte, who knew Lopez through the Dallas chapter of LULAC — A civil rights organization for Latin-Americans — said.

Throughout her life, Lopez was known for her community activism, back-to-school events and her passion for civic engagement.

According to West, there is not currently a timeline of when the sign toppers will be added to Jefferson Boulevard. A similar memorial which honored Gay Rights Activist Don Maison took about four months from proposal to installation.
