Police say the mass shooting occurred Saturday night around 9:00 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Westmoreland Road in Redbird.

A passenger from a car going westbound on Gannon Road opened fire on the vigil, police say, and some members of the crowd responded with gunfire. The car is described as a white Chrysler.

Police say the four people who were injured were taken to local hospitals and are in stable condition.

The vigil had gathered to mourn a shooting that had occurred in the same location just over 24 hours prior, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Donavon Jones and the wounding of 23-year-old Jacory Simpson.

A police investigation found Simpson was shot by 20-year-old Taquan Cooks following an argument. After being shot, Simpson approached Jones and shot him.

According to police, Cooks was taken to the Dallas County Jail and charged with Assault-Serious Bodily Injury. Simpson was taken to a local hospital and an arrest warrant has been obtained for Murder and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.Â
