Of the 617 responses the survey received, 499 responses were from residents of District 1 or neighborhoods bordering District 1, with the large majority of responses coming from residents in the 75208 zip code.

The 75208 zip code encompasses the Bishop Arts district which is a central area for most Oak Cliff STRs, a map on Airbnb shows.

The City Plan Commission worked throughout 2022 to define where short term rentals should operate, and the Quality of Life Committee is now mulling the issue over to develop a set of regulation suggestions for the City Council to implement. That regulation could be discussed as soon as summer-time, after years of city-wide stalemate on the subject.

Over half of those surveyed stated that it is “very important” for STRs to be registered with the city, and abide by occupancy limits and noise regulations.

Registration and permitting fees, on-property parking and the regulation of outdoor events on property were seen as “very important” by nearly half of those surveyed.

Survey results also showed that most believe the city should have the ability to terminate the license for STRs with multiple citations by Code Enforcement.

One third of survey participants within Oak Cliff zip codes expressed that they believe STRs should not be allowed in single-family neighborhoods.

That number is consistent with the response from those who took the survey but do not live within District 1. Outside of Oak Cliff, Preston Hollow and Lakewood neighborhoods submitted to most responses to the survey.

Just over 17% of those surveyed identified themselves as a current STR owner.
