In line with the holiday, festivities throughout the rest of the month will include the 15th annual Oak Cliff Earth Day, the opening of a new park dedicated to Stevie Ray Vaughan and the historic recognition of one of Dallas’s oldest trees.

April 16 will be the annual Oak Cliff Earth Day celebration hosted at Lake Cliff Park. The theme for the 2023 event is “environmental justice for all,” emphasizing the importance of clean water, air quality, healthy food and quality of life.

The event will take place from noon until 5 p.m. Performances from local schools will include a 1:00 p.m. Greiner Ballet Folklorico and Greiner Dance Company show, with a jazz fusion performance by Booker T. Washington High School students following at 2:15 p.m.

There will also be multiple food trucks at the event.

Also on April 16 will be an event honoring a 175-year-old pecan tree that stands in West Dallas. The Texas Historic Tree Coalition will declare the tree historic and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Omar Narvaez will dedicate a memorial plaque at the site.

The proclamation presentation will be given at noon at Lake Cliff Park, so it will be possible to attend both events.

April 22 is officially earth day, and you can head over to Cockrell Hill for the unveiling of a new park dedicated to Oak Cliff legend Stevie Ray Vaughan.

At the start of his career, Vaughan played at the Cockrell Hill Jubilee which was held at the Hill Theater located at 4332 West Jefferson Blvd. That land will be developed into a “public outdoor gathering space” named after Vaughan.
