Trevino became a teacher after moving to Kazakhstan with the Peace Corps for an educator position.

“Trevino learned what teaching was all about and fell in love with the transformative power of education,” DISD said in a write up about Trevino for the award.

While Trevino “has no plans to leave teaching,” she also helps write curriculum with the Texas Education Agency and Pearson.

Trevino is one of four finalists in the secondary education category. An elementary school teacher and choice/magnet school teacher will also be recognized.

In 2021, former Greiner principal Yvonne Rojas was nominated for the districtwide principal of the year award.
