Harold Thompson, 22, faces one charge of murder in connection with the May 10 death of 26-year-old Gabriella Gonzalez.

Police say they received a shooting call to the Shell gas station located at 820 S. Walton Walker Blvd. around 7:30 a.m. May 10. When they arrived, they found Gonzalez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Gonzalez died at the scene, police said.

Video footage of Gonzalez and Thompson interacting minutes before the shooting showed Gonzalez “shrugging off” Thompson’s attempt to put her in a chokehold, police said.

In addition to the murder charge, Thompson faces a count of assault of a family/house member impeding breathing/circulation.

An arrest affidavit dated April 14 shows that Gonzalez spoke with Dallas police about alleged abuse in her relationship with Thompson.

Gonzalez told police Thompson had “beat her up multiple times throughout the entirety of their relationship,” the affidavit says. The report also states that in Jan. 2023, Thompson “violently attacked Gonzalez,” leaving bruises.

That incident, and a second incident in Nov. 2022 that Gonzalez said left her with a black eye, went undocumented to police.

The report states that Gonzalez appeared to be “very fearful” of Thompson “and was crying” while speaking to police, and was “scared of the suspect because he has made threats to harm her family and her children.”

In a March 22 phone conversation with police, Thompson denied ever choking Gonzalez and told police there may have been an incident where Gonzalez hit him and he “struck her back,” records show.

Thompson also told police that Gonzalez was pregnant with his child, the affidavit says.

After Thompson was arrested he declined to give a statement, police said. Thompson was booked in the Dallas County Jail May 10 and was denied bond at a May 11 court appearance.
